In it’s 36th Year!
The Hay Makers Gallery, now in its 36th year, celebrates this year’s event with a comprehensive exhibition of visiting artists both old and new. It showcases a wide variety of styles with something tempting for everyone and every budget.
Carry Ackroyd is an established painter and printmaker based in rural Northamptonshire. She has made over 100 bird illustrations for the Oldie magazine and is inspired by the work of visionary poet John Clare and a love of the countryside and wildlife. She is a member of the Society of Wildlife Artists and has published her own illustrated books. We will be showing many of Carry’s lino cuts, colourful prints, and paintings in the exhibition.
Daniella Wilson Dunne works in stained glass from her studio at The Brewery Arts in Cirencester. In between commissions she likes to make smaller pieces often depicting British wildlife. Daniella works predominantly with handmade glass, building up the images by layering paint and enamels by hand and kiln firing in between each stage.
Potter Kim Donaldson has developed her unique style formanyyears,handbuilding herfunctionalpotsusing slab rolling techniques. The asymmetric shapes are covered with beautiful decoration using the tin glaze majolica process.There is a retro feel about the stylised floral patterns, resulting in distinctive and original work.
Nadedge Honey is a contemporary jewellery designer with a love of strong bright colours, creating colourful and quirky pieces with polymer clay and sterling silver. Nadege gains inspiration from a variety of sources that includes a fascination for mid century and art deco styles to an award winning Breton collection influenced by her childhood in Brittany.
Based locally in Kington, Angela Soulier makes memorable, one-off pieces of jewellery based on natural found objects which she has collected. She describes herself as being “inspired by light, colour and form, texture and movement – nature in all its grandeur.” She has lived in different countries including Mexico where she learnt her craft with silversmiths from Taxco. Angela’s work is also influenced by costume, resulting in some wonderfully dramatic pieces!
Finally, Cornelius van Dop has exhibited atThe Hay Makers before with his beautiful and much sought-after boxes. They are truly collectors’ pieces and not to be missed. Cornelius was born in the Netherlands and moved to Canada at the age of 6. After gaining a degree in Philosophy and teaching in art colleges, he moved to the UK and now concentrates on making exquisite boxes and jewellery, working with brass, copper, and silver.
In addition to this fine array of craftspeople, the seven members of The Hay Makers cooperative will be showing new work - prints, textiles, stone carving, ceramics and wood turning - alongside silver jewellery and leatherwork by the artisans of Timbuktu.
