Q&A with Larchwood Studio at Racquety farm

Tell us about the team behind the business: Larchwood Studio, built in 2019, is part of Racquety Farm. The studio is set back from the river in woodland just downstream from the Warren on the opposite bank. It forms part of Aubrey & Clare’s family home, from which they work on several projects and run the Larchwood development alongside Aubreys’ Mum and Stepfather (Ros and Geoff Garratt). It’s a true family affair and since 2021 spans three generations!

How is the space being currently used? Since hosting the pilot Community Festival with Russell Brand and Wim Hof in 2021, Racquety Farm is now home to this annual coming together of like-minded people for wellness, joy and spiritual awakenings. The year-round happenings at Larchwood Studio synchronise with Community Festival in the summer and at other times of the year the studio is busy working alongside all the other offerings at the Soil association certified-organic Racquety Farm. They include camping, glamping, accommodation, small private events, pop-ups, exhibitions, designers and makers, growers and produce, arable, pasture and the Hayfield community garden. Larchwood Studio is a growing and welcoming community of practitioners offering well-being opportunities and experiences for the local community and visitors to the area.

What can we expect to see at Larchwood during 2023? Yoga in many forms including (but not limited to) breath-work, sound therapy, reflexology, Thai massage, varying complementary therapies, iridology, rest and relaxation retreats, half-day and full-day retreats, residential retreats, holding-space workshops, somatic awareness workshops, martial arts, dance, Forest School training and family sessions.

We have a comprehensive weekly and monthly offering of classes, retreats and workshops from a broad range of practitioners, as well as more Forest School Leader trainings from Cambium sustainable, with the return of Woodland Tots from Rooted Forest School for local families with little ones.

Keep checking back as we, and our resident facilitators, evolve and grow our offerings.

Calendar highlights at a glance:

  • Regular weekly and monthly wellbeing classes, workshops and retreats.

  • Hay Festival food and fun in May and June.

  • The three-day Community Festival in July is the peak of our calendar.

  • The brilliant Di and Al return with Starry Meadow in August.

Is the space available to hire? Yes! Contact Clare at hello@larchwoodstudio.com - join the growing community of practitioners, use the space and outdoor kitchen for a pop-up, or hire the studio and facilities for private meetings, work events or gatherings.

Anything else you’d like our readers to know? To get to here: Cross the bridge out of Hay towards Clyro and head up the hill a few hundred yards. You’ll find the gateway on your left. It takes about ten minutes at a brisk stroll to walk to us from Hay.

It is an accessible venue, welcoming all bodies, and there is heaps of parking.

A little about our roots: The Larchwood building project was completed in 2019. We are all proud of what we’ve created in our home, facilities, and spaces for our practitioners, guests and visitors. We are equally proud of the low impact of the buildings and facilities, which we will continue to improve upon as we grow and develop into the space over the years ahead of us. Sustainability runs through the core of everything we do here and we are continuously looking for ways to improve and reduce our impact both now in the present day and for future generations. We also aim to provoke thought and action in others through their experiences at Racquety Farm.

“The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.” - Robert Swan
