Ludlow Assembly Rooms Traditional Pantomime
Jack and the Beanstalk – what a great choice for your pantomime this year. Tell us a little about the show and what we can expect?
Thank you! We’re so excited to be bringing this amazing story to Ludlow. This production is professionally acted and produced, so expect lots of high-quality glitz and glam when you take your seat in our newly refurbished auditorium.
The script is eye-wateringly funny, and the costumes really have to be seen to be believed! This is a family- friendly production, so there’ll be lots of traditional panto laughs for all ages as you follow the heroic Jack Trott on his mission to defeat an evil giant in the Land of Clouds. Dame Trott, Daisy the Cow and a host of other characters will join Jack along the way, with plenty of big musical numbers, dancing, and audience interaction too!
Please tell us a little bit about the cast.
Will there be any familiar faces on the stage? There certainly will! We have Ludlow’s very own Morgan Rees- Davies, who will be taking on the par t of the sinister Fleshcreep – Morgan recently played the beastly Werewolf in the feature film Wolf Manor, so he’ll definitely make the perfect villain for our panto!
We’re also thrilled that we’ve got the extremely talented Daniel J Biran joining us as Jack Trott! Daniel’s already been the star in a number of productions, including Sweeney Todd and Dr Zhivago, and he can’t wait to meet our lovely audience this December.
Our ensemble features over 30 junior performers from all around the local area, and they’ve been filling the Assembly Rooms with amazing song and dance since rehearsals began a few weeks ago.
We’ve also just begun searching for the perfect Princess Jill – so anyone interested in auditioning should get in touch with productions@ludwigtheatrearts.com for a bit more information.
The rest of our professional cast is coming from all around the UK, which means our wonderful eclectic company will be made up of the best panto professionals you could hope for!
Will there be references to Ludlow and the surrounding area?
Oh yes there will! It wouldn’t be a panto without a few local references but we don’t want to spoil the fun and give them away too early. If you’re a Shropshire local, there’ll be plenty you recognise in the script!
Can we expect a good bit of banter and traditional pantomime cheek?
Yes! This is a traditional panto, so there’ll be lots of laughs and opportunity for audiences to get involved in the fun too. Jack won’t be able to defeat the giant and the sinister Fleshcreep alone – so we really do need the audience’s help in cheering him on!
A lot of work goes into putting a pantomime together, the auditions/rehearsals, the fabulous costumes, the impressive sets, etc. How long have you been preparing for the big event?
Initial talks started about a year ago, and we’ve been preparing for Jack and The Beanstalk here at Ludlow Assembly Rooms ever since! The junior cast has been in rehearsals for around a month, so now that we’re so close to opening our doors to audiences there’s a real buzz of excitement around the building.
Anything else you would like our readers to know?
This is Ludlow’s first professional pantomime, and we would love it to come back year after year, so please come along and support live local theatre and help us make great panto a fixture of the Ludlow Christmas diary! Tickets are already going fast, so we’re recommending that everyone books early to secure their seats and avoid any disappointment.
There’s going to be a relaxed performance at 1pm on Tuesday 20th December, and we’re also offering discounted tickets for large school bookings and large groups on our school trip performances, so if you know any schools that might want an amazing December trip, then let them know about our show!
If you’re coming to the panto and want to make a day of it, Bill’s Kitchen Ludlow is offering an amazing festive menu, and with a very important Someone from the North Pole moving in under our main staircase as well, you really can experience all the magic of Christmas under one roof this year at Ludlow Assembly Rooms.
