News from Llangattock CC

Poor public transport and frustrations with traffic and parking are all too familiar in this rural area of Wales, and we’re looking to rectify this. We (Llangattock CC) have been granted funding by Aberystwyth University’s Transport and Health Integrated Research Network (THINK) to explore the viability of a community electric bus and car share scheme for the villages in the Six Council area of Crickhowell and Llangattock, Llangynidr, Cwmdu, Tretower and Bwlch, Vale of Grwyney, Llanbedr and Llangenny as well as Gilwern, Clydach and Maesygwartha.

Firstly, we need to assess the levels of demand and the types of transport that would best serve the six communities in the context of the climate emergency, transport poverty and access to health and wellbeing. We also want to support the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park Authority and Powys County Council in their goal of reducing CO2 emissions.

As such, we will be conducting a survey during the coming months and running informal community engagement events alongside Llangattock Green Valleys who will be discussing community energy. These will be on Saturdays in each of the six councils – see our advert and listings to find out when we’ll be in your village hall.

There will be refreshments and cake that we’d love to share with you! Please do come along to one of the events and look out on social media for our survey when it goes live.
