Business Profile: Hillscott Projects Ltd.
Tell our readers when and why you set up a bespoke flooring business on Brecon high street: We were already in the flooring business and decided it would be good to have a high street presence. We are passionate about independent retail and the survival of the high street, and it’s great to be part of it! We chose Brecon in particular as we’re local folk - we live in town and our children go to local schools. Hugo is a Christ College Alumnus, Jo is originally from Llangynidr (so not far away!) and Jonathan moved to the area many years ago and is extremely glad he did.
How is this part of the business going? The flooring side of the business is going very well. We’ve expanded our fitting team and can offer real skill and expertise in a wide range of domestic and flooring products: Carpet, LVT, Wood, Sisal, Seagrass. We are also able to offer commercial services such as safety flooring. One of the fastest growing areas of our business is Epoxy Resin Flooring and Resin Bound and we have high-tech floor grinding equipment that enables us to carry out specialist floor preparation work.
We see you’ve expanded to next door, can you tell us what products and services you now offer? We are extremely excited about our expansion into ‘next door.’ It gives us more showroom space for flooring ranges and allows us to increase our offering to include blinds, made-to-measure curtains and Little Greene paint and wallpaper. We also have some gorgeous bedding and soft furnishings in stock. We are beyond thrilled about our collaboration with Little Greene in particular - we could do a whole interview by itself about their paints and paper, and their stand is a work of art in our showroom!
How do the two parts of the business compliment each other? The two parts of the business enable us to provide a ‘one-stop’ interiors service - we have talented staff on hand to help you to tie everything together and achieve your vision for your home.
What is your ideal job / client? Our ideal client has an appreciation for quality materials and workmanship - and values local, independent businesses.
List five goals on your business to-do list: Continue to grow, raise the profile of the industry by offering training and apprenticeships, contribute as much as we can to the local community, continue to work on our sustainable responsibilities, and maintain a happy, supportive, family atmosphere for our clients and employees.
Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know? We employ an excellent group of people - it will be our own Hillscott Fitters who arrive at your property and they are all trained in our standards and values. They will take your old flooring away with them and leave your home tidy and vacuumed. Between our friendly admin team and the fitting team, we are able to offer a reliable, professional service from the minute you walk in through our door, to the minute we walk out of yours.
Also, we have selected our suppliers very carefully and make every effort for our products to be as sustainable as possible - we are advocates of wool and wood in particular. The LVT company we use operates out of a carbon neutral factory. Our carpets and curtains are made in Britain.
Sum your business up in five words: Professional, friendly, conscientious, reliable, bespoke.
