Magic Fundraiser
Every day, seven young people aged 13–24 will hear the words, ‘You have cancer’. They will each need specialised nursing care and support, and the Teenage Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to meeting this vital need. The Trust’s nurses and youth workers walk with young people from diagnosis through every step of their treatment, and for up to two years afterwards, so that they can recover and live life to the full. Ludlow Cancer Support Group has decided that it will fundraise for the Trust, which is nationwide. Locally, however, it funds a Teenage Cancer Trust Clinical Nurse Specialist who works at both the Princess Royal Hospital Telford and the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital. She also links in with the Teenage and Young Adult team at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham – the Principal Treatment Centre.
“We plan to use May and June to fundraise for this essential organisation,” said Rosemary Wood, Chairman of LCSG. “We will donate the proceeds from these months’ raffles and lunches, and are staging a very special Afternoon Tea in the Parish Room of St Peter’s Church on Wednesday 14th June. This will be a truly ‘magical’ event, as we will be entertained at the tea tables by magician Jack Dent. Jack is an Associate of the Inner Magic Circle with a silver star, and member of the prestigious International Brotherhood of Magicians. He has performed throughout the UK and overseas, on television, radio, cruise ships, yachts, theatres, casinos and hotels, and we are really looking forward to welcoming him to Ludlow.”
Tickets are limited, cost £10 per person and must be pre-booked. LCSG has set up a JustGiving page for donations to the Teenage Cancer Trust; it may be accessed via the link:
