Silver Assist Home Care
When was the business started? We launched this year in February.
What made you set up the business? Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have wonderful grandparents who were a daily presence in my life, providing encouragement and support while I attempted (quite clumsily) to navigate my teenage years. We had a great relationship and as they grew older and needed a little support, I gladly helped where I could. In fact, I enjoyed it so much that I switched careers completely, became a carer and never looked back! My grandfather followed my career progression with his usual enthusiasm for anything I did, regularly encouraging the thought of creating something of my own that would support mycommunity, andwhenhepassedacoupleofyears ago, I decided to take the plunge! I have his photo on a lot of our artwork to keep me focused on what is fundamentally important in our line of work, the ability and desire to really connect with people.
Where are you based and what area do you cover? Our office is based in Llangorse, but we service the area of Brecon and it’s surrounding villages.
What services do you currently offer? We provide support that enables people to retain their independence and quality of life in their own home. This could include but is not limited to; companionship, personal care, assistance with meal preparation, medication support, light housework, shopping and trips out. If there is something you need but isn’t listed, just give us a call and we will see how we can help.
How would you say your care differs from your competitors? I think our colleagues in the industry do a great job and supporting clients, as we do, to ensure they remain at home for as long as possible, but I believe the difference for us is the energy we put into creating an environment for our carers to ensure they feel valued, supported and that their wellbeing is our primary concern. Starting my career at grass roots level means I know the amazing contribution carers make, the satisfaction their role brings but also the frustrations they can experience, which is why I try to focus on staff initiatives that keep us all connected as a team. We have regular “carer fun days” where we get together and take some time out, all staff receive full pay on their birthday but can take the day off, they are entitled to two days volunteering for a charity of their choosing while receiving full pay, and much more. They’re the heart of our business and it’s important they feel that.
Do you need to do any annual training to keep your qualifications up to date? Our staff are provided with a full induction prior to visiting our clients and receive annual refresher training to ensure they feel confident and competent when supporting our clients.
Are you looking to recruit more carers? If yes, how would you suggest people get in touch and what are you looking for? Yes, we are always looking to expand our team. Being a carer is such a rewarding role for the right person. If you have the right attitude, everything else can be taught. If you would like to know more about what the role of a carer with us looks like or would like to chat through what opportunities we have available, you call us on 0333 188 7787 or email hello@silverassist.wales
What is your greatest achievement in your business? It’s still early days for us but the fact that we are up and running and serving our local community is a tremendous achievement that we are immensely proud of!
Is there anything else you’d like our readers to know? Making the decision to have support can be a daunting one, we appreciate it’s not easy and can be a little overwhelming when considering your options. If you have any questions about what support is available or would like some advice on your or a loved one’s situation, just reach out, we are happy to pop out for a no obligation, commitment free chat, and if we can’t help, we’ll point you in the direction of someone who can!
Sum your business up in five words: Homecare that you can trust.
