National Apprenticeship Week

It’s National Apprenticeship week here in the UK and at Cariads Local Ltd., we know all about apprenticeships. Half the team started as apprentices - even this boss!

The aim of National Apprenticeship Week is to bring together apprentices from all over the UK and to celebrate the positive impact they have on communities, businesses, the economy and individuals.

Lisa Marie started her career at Freestyle Print in Brecon, whilst doing a business studies qualification with Powys Training. The work placement was a great introduction into the print industry. After this she went on to work in sales with two other Brecon businesses, before moving onto a large print company in Hereford. In 2006 Wye Local was launched. The business idea snowballed and now she is the proud owner and publisher of three monthly publications and a business that has been thriving for over 17 years ... as well as sister company Pink Sheep Design & Print.

Nicole, (who many of you know as Nic) started working at Cariads Local Ltd., over ten years ago and began as a business studies apprentice with Hereford & Ludlow College. Whilst completing her studies, Nic was trained up on the Adobe platform. She continues to create professional adverts and layouts for all our lovely advertisers each month. It just goes to show how versatile apprenticeships can be.

Our most recent apprentice is Carrianne (many of you know as Caz), who started at Cariads Local Ltd., only a few years ago studying digital marketing with the Gower College Swansea. She has completed her Level 3 certificate and has nearly completed level 4. In the background, Carrianne is implementing her knowledge onto our own social platforms and website. Traffic is increasing nicely. Whilst our confidence remains in print, we are pleased to have a digital presence too.

Here at Cariads Local Ltd., we believe that hands-on learning is the best learning. Learning through doing is one of the quickest ways to build confidence and experience and apprenticeships have given each of us the opportunity to advance our education and careers whilst working; making further education affordable and feasible.
