Psychotherapy Hay

Why did you set up Psychotherapy Hay? I am in my third year of training as a Psychotherapist (the training is rigorous and can take up to 7 years) with the Welsh Institute of Psychotherapy in Cardiff, and after extensive client work in clinical placements with both Mer thyr and Brecon MIND, I felt ready to start my private psychotherapy practice here in Hay.

What do you offer? Supported by my training institution, and the UKCP (UK Council for Psychotherapy), I am now able to offer low-cost affordable Psychotherapy and Counselling for adults. I see clients for 50 minute sessions, usually at the same time of week, and together we can work through all sorts of issues - people come to see me for many reasons, from getting support with a particular problem or life transition, processing painful memories, or help with mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. You might feel overwhelmed and like your issues are ‘too much’ to deal with, but I can support you with compassion and understanding to explore your situation and the way forward.

What inspires you? I love the ‘challenge/support’ model. We can become overwhelmed in ‘high challenge/ low support’ situations, yet can stagnate under ‘low challenge/low support’ conditions. Instead we thrive when we experience ‘high challenge/high support’ - which means we can cope with all sorts of tough situations as long as we have enough suppor t, and can trust enough to lean into it. I am trained to offer that support, in a warm, open and confidential space.
