Bromyard Folk Festival is back this September! Running from the 7th - 10th, you don’t want to miss it! This family festival situated in the rolling hills of Herefordshire is the perfect long weekend. There’s something for the whole family, with children’s entertainment each day, interactive folk dance displays that anyone can give a go and the usual international folk performers in concerts and workshops.
Bromyard Folk Festival started in 1968 and sold 150 tickets. Now it is attended by thousands every year. The festival’s goal has always been to promote folk traditions by making them as accessible as possible during one weekend of packed entertainment.Acts can be local, award winning national performers and international folk legends. There is a warm family feeling, with entertainment for all ages, plus food, drink and activities throughout the whole weekend. Each day is taken up with various workshops, sing-arounds, meet-the-artist sessions, concerts and dance displays. Not forgetting the displays and shows in town too.
The Future of Young Folk Award has been a par t of the festival since 2002 and is an opportunity for young folk artists under 25 to showcase their talents. The winner will be awarded a trophy, be booked to appear at next year’s Bromyard and Warwick Folk Festivals and have a free recording session in a professional studio (courtesy of Jon Loomes). The aim of this award is to encourage the tradition of unaccompanied folk singing and many of the previous winners have gone on to become leading performers on the folk scene. So if you are aged under 25 and want to give it a go, sign up, the competition is open to any singer up to the age of 25 and takes place on Sunday in Falcon Mews (a great acoustic venue), from 12 - 1.30pm.
