Ludlow Cancer Support Group
Who are you and what do you do? LCSG began in 2014, when a small group of people came together when a friend was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and the nearest support group was in Hereford. Nearly 10 years later, the group is thriving. It is often difficult to talk to family or friends about cancer for fear of causing them distress, but this group provides a social, safe meeting place where members can talk, or not talk, about their illness. People who have come to the group alongside a partner suffering from cancer, often then remain after bereavement.
What are the organisation’s goals? Short term:To offer fun, friendship and laughter. Long term:To be there to offer support when life is dark and difficult.
How has the money raised been used in recent years? Fundraising events have resulted in donations to Severn Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support, the Teenage Cancer Trust, the Renton Unit at Hereford Hospital, the O’Connor Haematology Unit at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital,Acorns Hospice and Breast Cancer Now.
